Dad was the taste-tester for my first marmalade trials in 2019. The man ate gallons of marmalade and picked which blend to enter into the local fair. Of course he chose his sister's recipe - blind tested. That batch won 1st prize at the 2019 Warkworth Fair and Dad and I celebrated with rounds of toast and marmalade on his porch. The blend went on to win a medal at Britain's Dalemain World's Original Marmalade Awards (Homemade Category) in 2020, but by that time Dad had passed on.
In an intuitive bid to connect with my Dad, I opened A Year of Marmalade on Instagram in August 2020, and by the fall I was selling marmalade. My passion project has turned into a side business.
I have learned many things over these last years including this....we are not 'one thing'. We are not our 'day jobs'. We have an internal symphony of ideas, interests and creativity. If I listen, I can hear it. I explore and do 'it' because I want to. Because I'm curious. Because it's fun.
I like to think that Dad is watching and enjoying my journey down this new and exciting path. I can picture him looking at me with a shine in his eye saying "Why not?!"

All Cramahe Hill Marmalade is handmade in small batches using traditional slow-cook open-pan methods. There are no preservatives, artificial pectin or colourings and no gelatin used. Some blends contain other producers’ products so please read the list of ingredients before purchasing.
I love to mix local & innovative ingredients with traditional methods and I strive to build relationships with family-owned farms & independent food producers who produce or use ethically sourced, fair-trade & sustainable products. And I'm a big homer - go Northumberland & go Canada!
I aim to learn marmalade-making methods from families & professionals around the world & to blend these time-honoured traditions with ingredients that reflect Canadian seasons, terroir and palates. I hope to share what I learn so that others can make their own fabulous blends of marmalade.
Cramahe Hill Marmalade staff are Certified Ontario Food Handlers (Public Health/Ministry of Health) in good standing.
